Biography

Dr. Jaswinder K. Walia, M.D. is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and the geriatric psychiatry site coordinator at the UC Riverside School of Medicine. She is also a staff psychiatrist at the Geriatric Psychiatric Clinic for the Riverside County Mental Health Department.

In addition to medical student and resident training and education, she is involved in the County’s Wellness and Recovery Program for older adults, the Specialized Multidisciplinary Aggressive Response Team (SMART) program, as well as the Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) prevention and early intervention program.

She formerly worked as an assistant clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine in the psychosomatic medicine fellowship. She has also served as the associate program director for the psychiatry residency at the UCR School of Medicine.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in microbiology and molecular genetics from UCLA, then earned her M.D. from the Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. She conducted her internship and residency at the UCLA-Kern Medical Center, and completed her residency training at Louisiana State University. She then completed a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at the Yale School of Medicine.

Research Interests

Walia's research interests include psychosomatic medicine, geriatric medicine, medical ethics, and medical education. She has participated in research studies on the safety of flexibly dosed investigational medication in the treatment of adolescents and the clinical management of metabolic problems in patients with schizophrenia.
