Biography

Dr. Christopher G. Fichtner, M.D., C.P.E., F.A.C.P.E., F.A.P.A., is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UC Riverside School of Medicine. He is also a staff psychiatrist with the Riverside University Health System - Behavioral Health.

He has served as a clinical professor of psychiatry for the school since 2013 and coordinator of the psychiatry grand rounds program since 2014. He has practiced in Riverside since 2008.

He previously worked as a clinical professor of psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, as an associate professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, as an assistant professor, instructor and lecturer at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and as an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Finch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School (now Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science).

Fichtner graduated with honors from UC Riverside, then earned an M.A. in psychology from Columbia University. He then received a master's in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary before attending the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine to earn his M.D. He also has a certificate in Medical management from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, through which he also holds specialty certification in administrative psychiatry. He is a fellow of the American College of Physician Executives (now the American Association for Physician Leadership), and a past president of the American Association of Psychiatric Administrators. Fichtner formerly served as mental health director for the State of Illinois.

Research Interests

Fichtner's interests include community psychiatry and medical administration; real-world practice, naturalistic outcomes, and medical effectiveness; systems of care and group dynamics; pharmacoeconomics and health economics; drug policy, PTSD, ADHD, psychopharmacology, and cannabinoid medicine.
