Internal Medicine Residency Training Sites

St. Bernardine Medical Center

St. Bernardine Medical Center (SMBC) is an fully-accredited, acute care general hospital. SBMC is a member of Dignity Health, one of the largest non-profit health care delivery systems in the western region of the United States.

SBMC is a 427 bed facility. Residents rotate at this site for their inpatient wards and various outpatient specialty rotations. Faculty members have established relationships and long-term experience with teaching and education in several other UCR programs, as well as medical students and other levels of trainees. The facility has entire range of services including cardiothoracic, neurology/neurosurgery, bariatric, vascular surgery etc. There is a 60 bed ICU. The ER sees over 80,000 patients a year.

SBMC is also a STEMI and stroke center. Situated in the heart of downtown San Bernardino, it caters to a large, diverse underprivileged patient population. It is a safety net hospital and also serves a tertiary referral center. Residents rotating here will be exposed to a wide variety of complex problems and will be guided by a team of competent internists.


San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital

This hospital has 79 beds for general acute care.  Residents will be rotating through this hospital for hospitalist service, night float, intensive care rotations and Emergency medicine.


VA Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Medical Center  serves veterans and active duty service men and women alike.

This has both inpatient and outpatient services and serves nearly 100,000 veterans. Residents will be rotating through this facility for continuity clinic, ambulatory rotations, rheumatology, dermatology, nephrology, pulmonary, ID, etc.


UCR Health Multispecialty Clinic at Citrus Tower

Residents will be doing continuity clinic and ambulatory rotations at this center in Riverside. They can also do some of their elective clinics in cardiology, endocrinology, and gastroenterology
