Conferences
Daily, Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Core curriculum didactics including guidelines

- Faculty development – learning and teaching in medicine – quarterly
- Specialty fellow conferences: cardiology, ECG, GI, ICU, tumor board – optional and as needed and possible
Quality Improvement Activities
- Programs for root cause analysis of complications and adverse outcomes.
- The M&Ms are comprehensive and critically looks at complications with an effort to prevent – occur monthly in different areas.
- Membership on various hospital QI committees.
- Daily safety huddles.
- Systems to recognize and correct medication errors.
- Safety procedures in place in OR, cathlab etc.
Research and Scholarly Activity
In addition to mandatory QI projects, residents will present and publish interesting cases and case series. They also have an opportunity to author book chapters, review articles, or be part of original research studies under the guidance of one of the faculty. They will also be coupled with fellows to work on research projects. Dr. Varadarajan will oversee resident research to make sure that they are engaged and to provide guidance.
Internal Medicine Fellowships
The UCR Internal Medicine Program also has accredited fellowship programs in cardiology, interventional cardiology, gastroenterology and critical care medicine with plans of expanding into other fellowships.
The primary training site for all fellowships is at St. Bernardine Medical center.
Admissions and Floats
We adhere to the ACGME guidelines that specify the number of admissions, workload, and work hours for the residents.
We will have no overnight calls for any rotation in the intern year and some NF experience in the senior years.
