Dr. Jose D. Quitain III, M.D., is pediatric hospitalist at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicineand the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Desert.

Most recently, Quitain was a pediatric ICU attending and pediatric hospitalist at the Elmhurst Hospital Center in Elmhurst, New York and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai.

After completing his education in the Philippines, Quitain completed rotating internship in 1996, then became a medical coordinator for the Jardine Davies - Medical Outreach Program in Davao City, Philippines. After his residency training for general surgery in 1998, he moved to New York, where he completed his training in pediatrics at the Elmhurst Hospital Center.

In 2006, Quitain completed his fellowship training in New Jersey for pediatric critical care medicine in Children’s Regional Hospital for Cooper University and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey. After this, he was employed in the pediatrics departments for the Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisiana.

Quitain is a current member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Philippine Medical Association. He is fluent in both English and Tagalog.

Research Interests

Quitain's research interests include simulation training as well as a variety of pediatric areas, including hyperglycemia and other predictors of poor outcome in pediatric traumatic brain injury, the BIS (BiSpectral Index) and BiSpectral index monitor, and the use of high frequency oscillatory ventilation in young adult population with ARDS.
