Biography

Dr. Prabhakar Kavipurapu, Ph.D., M.D., F.A.A.F.P., is an assistant clinical professor of the UCR School of Medicine and a doctor of family medicine at UCR Health in Palm Desert.

Kavipurapu completed his Ph.D. in biochemistry in Australia in 1971 and shortly after became a research associate and post-Ph.D. fellow at the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then continued to be as a senior research associate for pharmacology and nutrition at USC, then a senior post-Ph.D. NRPF fellow for non-clinical research in ophthalmology and developmental neurology in UCLA. In 1980, he became assistant professor and assistant radiation safety officer for ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

He earned his M.D. physician and surgeon degree (titulo de medico cirujano) in the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad in Mexico in 1987 then completed his residency in the University of California, San Francisco in 1994.

Kavipurapu, who is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, has worked as a family physician and urgent care physician with six different medical centers throughout Southern California and has previously taught medical students and residents who were rotating through the clinics at which he worked.

He is fluent in English, Indian (Telugu, Hindi, Tamil), and Spanish. He enjoys spending time with his family and his hobbies include swimming, tennis, chess, photography, writing skits, acting, directing and playing harmonica.
